The Best Activities around Kelowna and Vernon this Fall
When summer departs the Okanagan Valley, crisp air sweeps down from the rocky peaks above and transforms the world into a living piece of art. Bold hues of red, orange and yellow streak through the cities and tank tops are quickly replaced by thick sweaters and rosy cheeks. When it comes to the area surrounding Outback Lakeside Vacation Homes, there is always something exciting to do in the fall. Whether you want to venture to Kelowna or to Vernon, both only a short drive from our location, you will find yourself surrounded by endless entertainment opportunities.
Fall Fun in Kelowna
Fall is a time of changing leaves, but it is also harvest time at all the Okanagan wineries. In Kelowna you will find over 40 wineries and you may even find the maker of the wines wandering around during these cooler months. Venture through multiple wineries on your own or join a tour that will guide you to some of the award winning teams that have put British Columbia on the international wine map. While you are sampling the whites and the reds, you will often be treated with a picturesque view of Lake Okanagan. Of course you can taste at these wineries all summer long, but the fall brings an opportunity to indulge without pushing your way through crowds of tourists.
Wineries are not the only ones busy with harvest. If you have a sweet tooth, Kelowna is full of apple farms with trees that are saturated with delicious fruit that is ripe for the picking.
If you want to soak in more of the brilliant autumn scenery and wildlife that Kelowna has to offer, head to Knox Mountain Park. You will have access to 580 acres of wilderness where you can hike, mountain bike or let your pup blow off a little steam at the off-leash dog park.
Golfing in the Okanagan
If you are a fan of golf in any capacity, you will fall in love with the courses available to you in Kelowna. There almost as many golf courses as wineries in this area with 19 world class fairways to choose from. If you have been hitting the links for a few years, you will recognize the names of some of the course designers which include Jack Nicklaus, Fred Couples and Thomas McBroom. If you have never visited Kelowna before, you will appreciate the near perfect conditions that present themselves to golfers day after day. Mild temperatures, almost no wind and vibrant, lush greens.
Venture to Vernon
Many of our guests decide to head north from Outback Lakeside and find themselves in Vernon instead of Kelowna. If you choose to do so in October, you will be able to indulge in “Vernon Downtown Dine Around” where more than 10 of the local restaurants put forth their best culinary offerings, presented in three-course menus created by locally sourced ingredients.
If you are visiting with young children, perhaps you will want to head to the pumpkin patch at Davison Orchards instead. Here you can ride on an orchard train and select your very own pumpkin right from the field!
Whether you decide to go north or south, to Vernon or Kelowna, there are ample amounts of fun fall activities to keep you entertained all autumn long. Of course, you can always stay at your cozy lakeside vacation home at Outback and enjoy the changing colours from the resort with the best views in the Okanagan!
