The Rise Golf Course

Perched on a sun-drenched slope at the edge of Vernon, The Rise is home to a few things you just won’t find anywhere else: endless views of Okanagan Lake, golf at the Fred Couples signature golf course, and acres of trails surrounding a nature reserve.

Predator Ridge Golf Course

With 36-holes of championship golf Predator Ridge is known as Canada's premier golf resort community and one of the best golf resorts in North America.

The Predator Course
Consistently recognized as one of the best courses in Canada over the last 20 years, the Predator Course has twice hosted the prestigious World Skins Game featuring some of the best players in the world. The Predator Course offers a challenge for every level of player. The rolling hills, long grasses and undulating greens make this course - designed by legendary course architect Les Furber - an unforgettable golfing experience.

The Ridge Course
Opened in 2010, the Ridge Course was designed by renowned course architect Doug Carrick and has quickly become known as one of Canada’s best golf courses. A challenging but playable course taking advantage of the natural topography of the area, the Ridge Course is defined by incredible vistas, long, scenic fairways and beautiful granite rock outcroppings.

Tower Ranch Golf Club

A Thomas McBroom designed championship golf course featuring dramatic undulating land, giving way to a fascinating and thrilling golf experience for all levels! The semi-private club, located minutes from downtown Kelowna and the Kelowna Airport, features captivating views from 18 holes of golf, a pro shop, driving range, dining room and a fitness facility. Tower Ranch is a golfer’s golf course – it’s a rugged layout with quick true greens and immaculate conditions. Harvest Golf Club

Gallaghers Canyon Golf Course

Rated as one of the best golf courses in the country, Gallagher's Canyon is a spectacular par 72, 18-hole championship golf course full of challenging fairways, well-protected greens and awe-inspiring vistas. Wine Region

50th Parallel Estate Winery

This stunning 61-acre winery slopes into Okanagan Lake and is rewarded with panoramic lake views and reflected golden sunlight that complements the bright, warm, dry climate so conducive to making wines. The facility is rather new and modern, and guests love the private picnic spots tucked in among the grapes, where they can enjoy the award-winning wine varieties ranging from Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris to Pinot Rose and Riesling.

Intrigue Winery

You just have to love a winery that showcases a bubbly pink bottle called “I Do” among its offerings. This boutique winemaker delights in surprising guests with unexpected tastes, and enjoys showing return guests how vintages change year after year. You can get a wide variety of award-winning wines to take home or enjoy in the picnic area; the problem will be choosing your favorite. Tastings and tours are offered.

Ex Nihilo Vineyards

The only thing almost better than the wines at Ex Nihilo is the view – ten spectacular acres sit on a bluff that slopes down to Okanagan Lake. The grounds are professionally landscaped, and visitors rave about the knowledgeable and friendly staff, the professional way the tastings are conducted and, of course, the wines. The Pinot Noir is a local favorite in this Mediterranean-style winery.

Arrowleaf Cellars

This picturesque, family-owned winery is situated on a hill that overlooks the 16-acre vineyard and Okanagan Lake. Sip the award-winning Bacchus red in the picnic area while enjoying spectacular lake views, particularly in the spring and summer. Forgot a snack? There’s a wine shop that sells cheese and crackers and other little treats you’ll enjoy. Winery tours and free tastings are offered.

Gray Monk Winery Estates

The family-owned Gray Monk Winery has been producing award-winning wines and five-star dining, all under one roof, for over 30 years. Stop by for a free tasting and wine tour, and then round out your visit with lunch or dinner in the Grapevine Restaurant where the chef and sommelier have paired each dish with a complementary wine. While everyone seems to have a different “favorite” wine, they all seem to agree that the beautiful lake view makes every sip delicious.

Ancient Hill Winery

This boutique winery is well loved by regulars. The small-lot wines are delicious, and the approachable owners, friendly staff and brilliant sunsets from the patio and picnic area also bring people back again and again. This is one spot you’re invited to unpack a picnic, uncork a bottle of a wine and relax for as long as you want.

Mission Hill Family Estate

This crown jewel of Okanagan wineries is world-renowned for its award-winning wines, architecture and stunning setting. The Terrace Restaurant is a spectacular culinary destination recently recognized by Travel + Leisure magazine as "one of the top five winery restaurants in the world…the centerpiece of the Canadian wine tourism industry…one of the most glorious dining experiences around”. Ski Resorts

Silver Star Mountain Resort
Distance from Outback Lakeside Vacation Homes: 41 kms (49 minutes)
Known for its family-friendly spirit, award-winning Silver Star Mountain Resort is lauded for beautifully groomed trails and lots of fresh powder in the winter, a plethora of ski-in/ski-out rentals and incredible snowshoe and cross-country paths. In the summer, the chair lifts operate to ferry mountain bikers to the peak. The summer also offers incredible hiking with up-close views of wildlife and flora. Any time of the year, Silver Star is a great family stop.

Big White Ski Resort

One of Canada’s top ski resorts, Big White boasts 750 cm of light, dry, fluffy “champagne” powder every year, 118 runs, and the country’s largest totally ski-in ski-out village. Big White was ranked #18 in the world’s top 50 ski resorts, and received numerous awards in 2014: People’s Choice Best Family Ski Resort of the Year, Best Ski-In Ski-Out Resort, #1 Ski Resort in Canada for Best Powder and the Best International Family Ski Resort.

Lake Activities

Okanagan Lake
Okanagan Lake is one of Canada’s favorite summer destinations. The lake spans 110 kilometers (68 miles) from north (Vernon) to the south (Penticton) and is 232 meters (780 feet) deep. Its refreshing waters provide endless summer fun, from boating, fishing, diving and swimming to exploring its many mysteries: tombs and lake creatures, hidden coves and isolated beaches. Not to be missed is the stunningly beautiful Kalamalka Lake, famous for the color of its water, which is brilliant, tropical and ever changing. Located only a short drive from the Outback, this lake is a must-see!

With over 30 beaches in the region to choose from, the possibilities are numerous. The Outback team has collected a list of local favorites on both lakes:

Ellison Park Beaches
Located adjacent to the Outback Resort, this beach includes a play area for children and picnic tables. Enjoy the beautiful pink sand beaches and clean waters for swimming.

Kin Beach
This family-friendly beach is located ten minutes from the Outback on the eastern shore of the Vernon arm of Okanagan Lake. The site offers a grassy area with a playground for the kids, several picnic areas with barbecues pits and a large picnic shelter. The sandy beach leads into the shallow swimming area. Change rooms and rest rooms on site as well as boat rentals. Parking is available along Tronson Road.

Paddlewheel Park
Family-friendly Paddlewheel Park is located between Okanagan Landing Road and Okanagan Lake on the eastern shore of the Vernon arm. On site is a sandy beach, grassy areas, a playground, basketball court, beach volleyball courts and tennis courts. A boat launch and trailer parking are available.

Cosens Bay and Juniper Bay
Both located within Kalamalka Provincial Park, these beaches feature many pathways leading to the two bays with sandy beaches, as well as other areas to access the lake. The park is attractive and the water is clean and great for swimming. Follow the signs for the "pet-beach" for your four legged friends

Kalamalka Beach
Located on the north shore of Kalamalka Lake, Kalamalka  Beach offers a long pier, change rooms, rest rooms and several beach volleyball courts. During the summer months, there is a concession stand as well as kayak and boat rentals right on the beach. Parking is accessible via Husband Road.

We all know about honey, which has antibacterial products, but that’s just a start! Visit this farm to (safely) watch honeybees in action and learn about how they’ve been critically important to our wellbeing for centuries.

Davison Orchards Country Village

Escape the big city and head out to the country! Davison Orchards will amply satisfy your desire for hayrides, petting zoos, farm animals and the freshest apple cider around. Pick your own produce to take home, but not before stopping in Auntie May’s Deep Dish Café for a farm-fresh meal. Davison Orchards is a favorite stop for kids and adults alike!

Lake City Casino

Top-notch entertainment, several dining options and plenty of gaming tables and slot machines to accommodate high rollers and penny-slot lovers alike. You’ve landed at Lake City Casino, where there’s always something to see and always something to do. You can opt for a lower-key experience and watch sports in the Grove Bistro & Lounge, or you can hit the “grab and go” option to get yourself right back to the action. There’s a taste of Vegas to be had in BC!

Atlantis Waterslides
Distance from Outback Lakeside Vacation Homes: 25.7 kms
Voted “Best Family Fun” attraction in the region, Atlantis beckons on hot summer days with ten waterslides. Popular are River Riot and Double Trouble, which propel you down drops and around curves until you splash safely into a pool at the bottom. You can purchase food here or bring your own lunch, and don’t forget sunscreen and towels.

Historic O’Keefe Ranch
Distance from Outback Lakeside Vacation Homes: 28 kms
This ranch and the “ghost town” it’s in were established in 1867 by Cornelius O’Keefe, an Irishman whose ranch was a center of trade. Visitors today can learn about Cornelius and how he developed the town, beginning with a general store on his property and eventually including a post office and a Catholic church. There are fascinating tours of the O’Keefe Mansion and other buildings in the town, including the Cook’s House, the Meat & Dairy House and the Blacksmith Shop. It’s an incredible walk through history, and there are always unique social events planned for more family fun.
